Final Report

My Co-op Experience at MPI

Why did you apply for a placement with Max Planck Institute?
There were other great offers, but the quality of work that MPI produce as well as the opportunity to try a different field in my studies had made MPI a top choice.

What recommendations do you have for students who wish to participate in MPI-UBC exchange program?
If learning German is a big priority, it is definitely helpful to learn some of the basics before getting here. I feel that it was very hard at the beginning to make any progress, and even now I only have the base amount of German.

As with most other jobs, although not necessary, reading up on past journal articles regarding your project would help understand the significance of your work.

Tell us about your travels and cultural experiences in Germany and the rest of the Europe
It is definitely a different culture here in Europe, with people living life differently from those in Vancouver. I have had the pleasure of exploring a few nearby countries and other cities in Germany. Trips range from a weekend hop over to Belgium, or a week-long trek across eastern Europe and Italy. It’s surprising how different cities have a completely different feel despite their proximity. A relaxing day spent in the beaches of Pula can be followed by the navigation of the canals of Venice.
